Survey for college students on racial discrimination (anonymous):
Does racial discrimination happen on campus?

• Do you feel that racism is still present in the world today?
• Have you noticed a big change in the presence of racism throughout your life?
• Have you ever witnessed an act or been a part of  an act of racism?
• What would you do if you witnessed an act of racism on campus?
• Do you see the legal system being fair towards all races and every ethnicity?

Topic Proposal

I have chosen to do research on discrimination and how it affects everyone differently. I have chosen this topic because I know people get made fun of and excluded a lot from things and I want to know how it affects these people personally. My first question would be "since you have been in school at the university of Iowa, have you ever heard any racial slurs that made you feel uncomfortable?" My next question would be "How did you feel when people said things about you? Did you just brush it off?" My plan for this research assignment would be to have interviews because the questions I have aren't the simple yes or no questions. I have also chosen to interview only students here at the university of Iowa. For the tables/graphs that we need to provide with evidence, I think I will ask the simple question of, have you ever been treated differently because the color of your skin?

Does it have to be formatted like the second example where it has the To, From, and Date?

Can this experiment be about anything?

Argumentative vs IMRaD

IMRaD and argumentative papers differ in many ways. First of all, they are both formatted in different ways. For example, an argumentative paper is formatted to have an intro, body and conclusion. Whereas the IMRaD's format consists of intro, methods, results, and discussion/conclusion. Another thing that differentiates these two forms of writing would be the way they get their information. In an IMRaD one is creating a study and finding the answers for the questions they have and providing their evidence to prove what they are trying to prove. Unlike an argumentative paper that you must go out and find a number of sources to prove the points you are trying to make. often times these sources are outdated and might not be as accurate as the ones you would find on your own.

A big difference in these two types of papers would be the formality of their writing. Some might say that the IMRaD form is more formal because you must answer the questions it gives you and you don't put your input in on it. Whereas the Argumentative papers, you can steer off a bit and it isn't much of a big problem.

In conclusion, there are several differences in each of these forms of writing. Some are from where the information is provided to how differently the information is written out in the paper as well. I believe that there is one thing they have in common. That is to provide an answer to the question they had when they first started this whole paper. The only difference would be how they received this information and portrayed it.
